Are you the Lash Police? Focus on your Lane and Stay Out of Hers!

In an industry that is unregulated in many states/countries, training and education is all over the place and bad lash jobs happen ALL the time. There are those who are looking to make a quick dime, natural lash health and client comfort be damned! There are those who are just starting out and want to do well, but they just don’t know any different because of their lack luster training. I think most of us got into lashes to offer an additional service to our current service menu and saw the demand for eyelash extension services. Then a lot of us fell in love and went full force forward into immersing ourselves in the lash world. I’m not sure about you, but at no point did I get into lashes or the beauty industry to babysit other lash artists and take it upon myself to be the regulating agency in my city's misguided lash work. After all, each and every single one of us was a pseudo-crappy lash artist at one point or another.

How much would it have changed your view of the lash industry as a whole if some B**** from down the street started offering her unsolicited advice and ripping your lash work apart when you’re just trying to support your family the best way you know how? I know that would’ve made a permanent enemy out of me. #byefelicia

Taking it upon yourself to bash, judge, ridicule or go as far as to contact another lash artist to address your “concerns” about their lash work is like judging a mom on her parenting. You are welcome to have your own opinions about how you would do someone’s lashes differently, but offering your unsolicited opinion to another lash artist so as to make your “holier than thou self” feel like you’ve made the lash world a better place just makes you a flat out “Lash-hole”.

Instead of concerning yourself with another artist’s poor work (and thinking you’re God’s gift to lashing), may I suggest taking a much more productive (and mayhap humble) approach and use what little or large platform and influence you have in your community to educate your client’s on how you differ from “the average lash artist”. Maybe even capitalize on the lack of training in your city by investing in your own and being the most educated and fleeky lash artist you can be. Use inferior work being done by those in your city as a catalyst to draw clients to your “superior” skills, education and training by explaining why your lash services are so bomb.com.

Don’t you dare take someone else down for trying and working on their craft. Don’t mention names, post photos or allude to anyone else’s faults. Only talk about your own faults and growth and hell…if you’re good enough at "walking the walk” as much as you are “talking the talk”... raise your prices cause you clearly know more than your average Josephine lash artist and offer a higher quality service.

LASHPRENEUR LIGHTBULB: As an industry, let’s let our default mode be to support and encourage each other and step up by BEING the EXAMPLE of leadership, influence and f***king awesome lashes.
